Summer in St. Joseph
As we get closer to the last day of school, and the first day of Summer, you might be wondering what there is to do to fill the evenings and weekends. From outdoor adventures, to local events, and hidden treasures along the way there is something for everyone in St. Joe. Whether you’re a local looking for a new experience or a visitor seeking the best of St. Joseph, here are some fantastic ways to make the most of your summer.
- Take the Kids to the Playground Did you know that St. Joseph has 11 parks with playgrounds? That’s right! There’s Hyde Park, College Hill, and Seitz Park just to name a few. Create a Park Playground Bucket List with your kiddos and check off visiting each one this summer. The St. Joseph Parks Department has even put together a helpful guide to learn what’s available at each park. You can view it here.
- Plan a Picnic There are so many beautiful places to enjoy a picnic in St. Joe. Spread a blanket out in Krug Park overlooking the theater, or along the River Bluff Trails surrounded by trees. If packing a picnic basket isn’t your thing, then a sandwich from 7th Street Cafe or Marek’s Delicatessen should do the trick. End your picnic with a scenic walk or a game of frisbee.
- Explore the Bike Trails If you are looking for more of a thrill, then explore one of our many bike trails. - Walk the Sculpture Walk Every summer the Allied Arts Council hosts their annual sculpture walk where you can view all of the 22 amazing sculptures that decorate our historic downtown. - Visit the Farmers Market Now through October you can visit the Pony Express Farmers Market in the East Hills parking lot. They are set up on Wednesday and Saturday mornings starting at 7AM. Pick-up home grown produce, enchiladas from the Enchilada lady, or locally raised beef from 1840 Cattle Co. You can get everything you need for a backyard BBQ in one place!
- Date Night Downtown We could go on and on about all of the amazing local businesses in St. Joe. But, one of the best ways to find out about them for yourself is to plan a date night in our historic downtown. Enjoy dinner at one of the unique restaurants, and then stop in and support some of the small shops too. There’s so many great places to try!
One of the best parts of St. Joseph is that there’s always something going on. So grab a notepad and start writing out your summer in St. Joe bucket list. It might fill up quicker than you think.
